Feedback, not appraisal is the basis upon which performance improves.  Feedback is the what, Coaching is the how.  The Performance Conversations® approach is a structured system of feedback that empowers both the manager and employee to work together to produce ideal performance.  Appraisals do not work because they are fundamentally flawed in their design, use, and intent.  They work against human nature, contain false assumptions, and are founded upon outdated theories.  Reject outdated theories that were built for an industrial world.  Use a 21st Century approach to managing performance and improving productivity–The Performance Conversations® approach.
